Pregnancy at Adler
Adler treats pregnancy (including, but not limited to, childbirth, false pregnancy, termination of pregnancy, and recovery therefrom) and related conditions as a justification for which no penalty may be imposed for absences deemed medically necessary by the student’s physician.
Requests for excused absences related to pregnancy or related conditions should be directed to the student’s instructor(s), and questions about Title IX should be directed to the University’s Title IX Coordinator: [email protected].
Appropriate documentation from the student’s physician specifying the length of absence needed for pregnancy or related conditions may be required in order to consider absences excused. At the conclusion of such excused absences, the student shall resume the status held at the time the absences began. Accommodations due to pregnancy or related issues may need to be made in situations where an extended leave is medically necessary.
If you are experiencing any medical complications from pregnancy or childbirth (e.g., preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, hyperemesis gravidarum) or will be undergoing surgery like a cesarean section, you are protected under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Contact Disability Services to discuss disability-related accommodations. Disability Services will work with you and your program to determine what accommodations may be reasonable based on a case-by-case, interactive basis. Note that medical documentation will be necessary. Contact Disability Services: [email protected].
You also may consider taking a Medical Leave of Absence. It is encouraged that you consult with your program chair or advisor as soon as possible to determine if a leave may be right for you, and how it may impact your completion of your program. A Medical Leave of Absence form is available on the Registrar page on Adler Connect.
