MACAT 524 - Research Methods in Art Therapy, Counseling, and Psychotherapy 3 This course is an introduction to approaches to research design, data collection methodology, and data analysis with a focus on the field of art therapy. It emphasizes the importance of evidence-based research in advancing the field of art therapy and counseling. Qualitative and quantitative research and mixed methods will be examined and synthesized by a major research proposal. Also, art therapy research protocols, ethical issues in conducting research, and multicultural considerations are explored. This course is a master’s-level introduction to research methods and program evaluation as it pertains to the fields of art therapy, counseling, psychotherapy, and clinical mental health counseling. Major research designs including both quantitative and qualitative methods are explored. In addition, the course surveys its history and development of program evaluation and provides an introduction to needs assessment, data collection methodology, and data analysis. Ethical and culturally relevant strategies for interpreting and reporting the results of research and program evaluation studies are also covered.
