MPPA 500 - Principles of Community Psychology 3 Community Psychology investigates people’s wellbeing and mental health in the context of community and social life. Largely informed by a concern with social justice, it focuses on social inequalities that impact the wellbeing of individuals and communities. To this end, it draws on Critical Theory to analyze the reproduction of power inequalities and the erosion of the individual’s ability to maintain control of their own wellbeing. In this course, students will study a wide variety of social actions and interventions that can promote the wellbeing of people and their communities. Students learn how to understand and explain contemporary social issues from the level of identifying and defining community problems to the level of policy and practice.
