MSYC 583 - Child Development and Counselling

This course provides an overview of knowledge and approaches to counselling that are developmentally appropriate for children (approximately 4-11 years of age). Theories, techniques, and strategies for working with children are presented. Counselling issues are explored, as well as strengths and challenges commonly experienced by this population. Students are provided with experience in skill development using individual counselling and play therapy. This course is divided into two sections: Half of the course will focus on child development and the other half will focus on counselling skills.

Prerequisites: Prerequisites: Students must complete MACP-472 and MACP-520 prior to registering for this course.
