This course will explore Kink and BDSM practicesin sexuality within a systemic framework. Students will be expected to engage in intrapersonal work exploring their own attitudes and biases about Kink and BDSM practices and analyzehow countertransference may impacttheir clinical work.Through didactic learning, students will become familiar with specific vocabularyandcommunication strategies that are utilizedduring BDSM scenes and Kinky play to foster consent. Students will increase their awareness of clinicalassessment strategiestodetermine when situations promotesafety versus abuse; students will learn appropriateclinical interventions to use in situations where abuse is present.Professionaldevelopmentin the field of sexualitywill also be emphasized to help students foster asafeclinical environment forKinksters and BDSM practitioners.Students will be instructedtopracticeself-care and be preparedaslectures maycontainexplicit content.
