CFTD 681.2 - Sex and Disability 1 This course will examine how sexuality is impacted for clients by various forms of disability. The course will provide education on the various forms of disability - physical, cognitive, and invisible disabilities or chronic illnesses. Through didactic learning, the student is expected to gain knowledge around various forms of disability and the multilayered impacts that disability can have on a person’s sexuality. The student is to use their systemic understanding to conceptualize, assess, and effectively choose interventions appropriate to the presenting and/or peripheral disability’s considerations and sex, as well as how to identify areas for collaboration to provide more holistic care for the client. The student is expected to explore and challenge their own potential biases, prejudices, and areas of countertransference that could come up in clinical work when working with clients’ sexual concerns and disability. The class will promote ongoing self-care and preparation as the class will include sensitive and/or explicit materials.
