FMHL 600 - Roles, Responsibilities, and Leadership In Forensic Mental Health and Public Safety 3 This course will explore the historic roots of the forensic mental health and public safety professions, as well as provide clarification as to the roles, developments, professional responsibilities, legal and ethical standards, leadership styles and models, and future directions of the field. Students will be exposed to the varying areas in which the mental health professions and legal and public safety systems interact, including but not limited to: social service agencies, jails, prisons, probation, parole, law enforcement organizations, mental health agencies, and criminal, family and civil courts. The course will emphasize the role forensic mental health professionals engage in related to policy development, program development, as well as leadership and oversight in their work with individuals, families, agencies, organizations, networks, and communities. Students will complete a course capstone assignment exploring their niche within the field and develop a career development plan.
