FMHL 605 - Conflict, Violence, Aggression and Restorative Practices 3 This course explores the psychosocial, political, and economic systems that influence behavior and the role they each play in the development of conflict, aggression, violence, and social deviance. Students will learn evidence based organizational and community level policies, programs and practices such as inter-agency collaboration, nonviolent communication, restorative justice, peace circles, and community policing that promote a fair, humane and effective forensic mental health system, and foster community wellbeing. This course will provide experience in the circle process as well as an understanding of the foundational values and key structural elements for designing and conducting peacemaking circles. The class will prepare students to design and facilitate peacemaking circles in a variety of situations. Restorative Justice practice-based interventions in the workplace, schools, law enforcement, prisons, religious institutions, community gang and public violence, and in transforming historical harms will be emphasized.
