FMHL 606 - Community Based Programming, Partnerships & Advocacy 3 This course will explore community based programing and social innovation using a wide range of tools, techniques and methods intended to unleash creative solutions to deeply rooted community based challenges. Students will be introduced to the Innovator’s Journey as a framework for social innovation tools and to transform the way they view community based problems. Students will learn from individual cases, as well as from the perspectives and experiences other participants bring into the course. Students will learn to define and redefine problems within a larger context using whole-systems thinking tools such as causal mapping, the adaptive cycle and stakeholder mapping. Developing strategic partnerships are an important component of community advocacy efforts. Partners can enhance community engagement in projects, increase community awareness of the issues being addressed, and establish a framework for the continued support of policies, programs and practices that enhance community well-being.
