PSY 801 - Psychoanalytic Approaches II

3
This course is designed to apply evidence-based theories of psychoanalysis, including but not limited to classical Freudian (drives, dreams, defenses, and transference) ego psychology, object relations (British & Middle Schools), self-psychology, relational, intersubjective, affect regulation (Allan Schore and colleagues), and mentalization (Peter Fonagy and colleagues) approaches to clinical practice. The focus of the course will be on learning and practicing specific interventions of brief and long-term psychoanalytic psychotherapy. Additionally, this course will build on the skills acquired in Psychoanalytic Approaches I (PSY 721 ) toward an advanced utilization of psychoanalytic theoretical approaches in the creation of integrated case conceptualizations, treatment planning, and effective interventions. Note: Satisfies program requirement as an Advanced Intervention Elective.
