COUN 536 - Counseling Multicultural Communities 3 This course is designed to provide a basic foundation of knowledge, awareness, and skills needed for providing more effective counseling services in a multicultural society. The course will cover theories, research, and practices associated with multicultural competence with emphases on between-group and within-group differences and the intersections of race, ethnicity, gender, religion, sexual orientation, country of origin, disability, and socioeconomic status. Students will be introduced to topics including oppression and privilege, racism, discrimination, sexism, power, and ageism.
