DCES 802 - Advanced Systems, Couple and Family Counseling 3 This course provides advanced study in couple, family, and systems theories and major models of family and couple interventions. Students will examine current research theories and analyze the applicability of these theories and models to populations rooted in diverse cultural systems. Students are expected to be able to assess and conceptualize clinical issues in family situations and select treatment modalities with reference to the family and individual members’ development cycle, dynamics of the family within the systems, and the effect of cultural factors and social issues on the family. There will be a special emphasis on the application of Adlerian concepts and principles when working with couples, family, and children. Clinical and developmental issues among alternative family structures will also be explored.
