DCES 822 - Quant Research Methods in Counseling 3 This course focuses on the use of quantitative data and application of both descriptive and inferential statistical research methods in the field of counseling, program evaluation, education, and behavioral sciences. Students will gain an in-depth understanding and application of various quantitative research designs, including survey techniques and correlational and experimental designs. Students will learn to critique and interpret quantitative research articles, validity, and reliability of the findings and to become intelligent consumers of research. Ethical and diversity issues in relation to quantitative research will also be examined. Students will acquire a conceptual understanding of data categorization and management, logistics of data collection and entry, and use of corresponding statistical analytical methods for different types of data and research approaches. They will also acquire a working knowledge of basic Excel and SPSS statistical functions.
