FMHL 602 - Organizational Consulting & Change Management 3 This course provides an analysis of structures, culture, and leadership of organizations. Much of the course addresses the theories, activities, challenges, and ethics of change management initiatives affecting individuals, work units, task groups, agencies and communities, and the role of the consultant in these processes. The course will familiarize students with organizational and group assessment techniques to use before, during, and after consultations designed to effect change. Additionally, students will learn how to evaluate various organizational interventions and choose appropriate interventions based on theory, specialized knowledge of the structure and culture of forensic mental health related organizations and empirical research. Senge’s learning organization model, appreciative inquiry, and theory of constraints are emphasized. Interwoven throughout the course is an understanding of the ethical implications of organizational interventions and enhanced cross-cultural sensitivity. Students will develop the intervention section of their action based research capstone assignment, taking into consideration any ethical concerns with their approach to program development, and the implications of their program evaluation recommendations.
Prerequisites: FMHL 600 and FMHL 601 .
