DCES 700 - Professional Orientation and Scholarly Endeavors I 1 This is the first course of a three-course sequence (DCES-700, DCES 701 , and DCES 702 ). This course aims at fostering the development of the counselor educator identity among the students. It will orient students to the role of counselor educator and their ethical and legal responsibility as a scholar, trainer, supervisor, and gatekeeper of the profession. With the assistance from the course instructor and/or faculty mentor, students will start formulating a plan to develop their specialty area(s) through mindful development of practicum and internship experiences and/or integrating the specialty area in the dissertation research and conference presentations. Students will also start building a professional portfolio and a plan for their leadership and involvement in professional organization. Practicum and internship planning and application process, and the Institutional Review Board approval procedures will be discussed. A primary focus of the course is to train students in the process of scholarly research, writing, and publication, along with the understanding of the rules and principles of the APA style. Students will also become familiar with the processes and resources available for the production of original research and involvement in professional organizations.
